The Maryville College cross country program traveled to Berea, Kentucky to run their first 5K challenge of the season at the Berea College Invitational.
The MC women placed sixth of 14 institutions with Centre College claiming the team title with an average finish of 19:58. The Scots completed the course in an average time of 23:22. Annie Rodenfels of Centre College earned the individual crown with an 18:23 finish. Of the 119 competitors, Maryville's top finisher was Lea Mulligan with a 22:08, a 33rd place finish. Just behind Mulligan was Susanna Cook with a time of 22:11 (34th place). Kaitlyn Carringer completed the challenge in 22:14 for a 36th place finish. Additional Maryville finishers include Chandler Chastian (25:01), Maddie Zawisza (25:14), Molly Ridgeway (27:13), AnneMarie McDurmon (30:10), and Erin Dupes (32:49).
The MC men finished the 5K in an average of 33:54 for a ninth-place finish with 11 competing institutions. Host Berea College paced the men with a 27:40 average finish to claim the team championship. Logan McKenzie of Berea paced the field of 102 runners with a 26:12 finish. Maryville's Daniel Beckett finished ninth overall with a 28:07 time. Ryan Lay finished 69th with a 33:34 effort. Brock Hodges finished 75th with a 34:12 time. Additional runners finishing for the Scots include Sawyer Cradit (36:41), Chase Chastain (36:57), and Lee Parker (39:39).
Coach Tyson Murphy's programs will now prepare to host the Maryville College Invitational on campus Saturday, September 30th.
