Scots women earn third position in USA South poll

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - Meredith College, under the direction of first-year Head Coach Leslie Payne, was picked in the USA South Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll to capture the women's cross country title in 2015. Last season, the Avenging Angels took home the program's second consecutive Conference championship. Meredith received nine of 11 possible first place votes, to go along with 99 points. Head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Covenant College finished second in the balloting with 90 points and the remaining two place votes. Maryville College placed third with 82 points while Mary Baldwin College ranked fourth with 64 points. Piedmont College, in fifth place, and Methodist University, in sixth place, rounded out the top-half of the poll with 63 and 54 points, respectively.

The women's cross country season gets underway on Tuesday, September 1st as Mary Baldwin attends the Hampden-Sydney Invitational. The USA South Cross Country Championship will be held at Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro, North Carolina on Saturday, October 31. The women's 6,000 meter race will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by the men's 8,000 meter race at Noon.
