Maryville College cruised to a USA South sweep of Brevard College on Saturday, as MC defeated the Tornados in straight sets, 3-0.
Maryville hit .268 for the match, as the Scots held Brevard to just a .024 effort.
Despite struggling with errors in the first set, Maryville cruised to a 10-point victory. The two teams battled to a 8-all tie before trading points to an 11-10 MC lead. The Scots tallied the next eight points – two of those on Youell service aces. Madison Wilkerson had a trio of kills in the rally, while Meredith Bonee added another to extend the lead to 20-10.
Maryville rode that rally for the 25-15 first set victory.
In the second set, it was all Orange and Garnet. MC had 18 kills with just three errors to hit .441 for the set, as they held Brevard to a .000 effort. The Tornados jumped to an early 4-1 lead, as Sydney Fox and Hannah Gordon posted kills. Dejane Hester-Taylor, Sidner and Bonee posted kills to knot things at 5-all before the Scots would take control.
The Scots continued their hot hitting in the third set, as they held a .247 hitting percentage. Over the final two sets, Maryville had 36 kills to just eight errors for the sweep. Kelley Wandell had a trio of kills in the final set, as Hannah Potts added another. Youell recorded a pair of aces in the final set to take the 3-0 win.
Maryville (13-8, 8-3 USA South) saw Youell near a double-double with 25 assists, nine digs and four service aces. The senior added a kill on her only attempt, as Sidner recorded a dozen kills at a .364 clip.
Sidner added two digs, two blocks, an aces and an assist on the day.
Wilkerson had eight kills for Maryville, while Bonee had 10 assists, five kills and five digs. MacKenzie Marcrum matched Youell's nine-dig effort for the game lead.
Brevard (1-20, 1-11) was led by Fox's six-kill, six-dig day. Gordon had 17 assists for the Tornados, while Mariana Rodriguez added a team-high eight digs.
