Bonee's triple-double not enough against Rhodes, 3-1

Maryville College suffered a tough, 3-1 loss to Rhodes College in their Maryville College Invitational in what would be a back-and-forth battle.

The Scots saw freshman Meredith Bonee record a huge triple-double in the contest, as the multi-faceted player hit .308 for the match.

"Meredith is a solid player," Head Coach Kandis Schram said. "We knew we would get quality minutes out of her. She's a special kind of player, but she hasn't even started doing what she's capable of. We're excited for that settle in and see what she's going to be able to do."

The Knoxville, Tenn. native had 11 kills, 23 assists and 14 digs in the four-set match. She also added a block to her stellar stat line against the Lynx.

However, Rhodes College would rally for the win, 25-22, 23-25, 28-26, 25-22.

Maryville would jump out to a 16-10 advantage in the opening set, as Madison Wilkerson's trio of kills combined with service aces from MacKenzie Marcrum and Rhianna Tyldesley.

However, Rhodes College would roll off seven of the next night, as Kelsey Glasper threw down three kills for the Lynx. The Scots took a 20-17 lead, before seven straight points would give Rhodes set point, 24-20.

The Scots fended off a pair of set points, before an MC attack error gave Rhodes set one, 25-22.

After battling to a 13-all score in the second set, as Nadia St. Thomas would deliver three-consecutive aces. A Dejane Hester-Taylor throw down, combined with a Tyldesley ace, MC would score eight of the next nine.

The Scots would battle to set point, 24-18, as the Lynx would rattle off five straight points to make the score 24-23. A kill by Tyldesley off the fingertips of a blocker would knot things at one, 25-23.

The third set was a constant battle for control, before Rhodes College found set points, 24-22. The Scots would rattle off three straight with kills from Arin Wyttenbach and St. Thomas for a 25-24 lead.

A back-and-forth tussle found a 26-26 score, before a Maryville attack error and a Camila Zimmerman ace would give the Lynx a 2-1 advantage.

The fourth set would be much the same in a scramble for the lead. The set saw 11 ties and four lead changes, as the Scots took a 22-20 lead on a Brianne Sidner kill. However, Rhodes would five straight points that saw four MC errors for a 25-22 fourth-set win.

Maryville (0-4) was led by Bonee's efforts, as Hester-Taylor tallied a team-leading 12 kills. She had three blocks, an assist and a dig in the contest.

Sidner had eight kills, seven digs, a pair of service aces and a block, as St. Thomas tallied 20 assists, a trio of aces, four digs, four kills and a block. Tyldesley matched St. Thomas' trio of aces, adding 11 digs and four kills in the match. Marcrum had 11 digs, as Wyttenbach posted six blocks on the afternoon.

Rhodes College (4-2) saw Zimmerman post 12 kills and nine digs. Heather Antrim added a dozen kills and five blocks, as Morgan Hill posted eight blocks.

Marissa Hall and Sarah Nieland had 21 assists each, as Mary Frances Daniel added 21 digs. Kelsey Glasper had 16 digs, three service aces and eight kills in the match.
