The Maryville College women's soccer program fell to Roanoke College 1-0 in Roanoke, Virginia on Sunday afternoon.
In the 33rd minute during the first half, Roanoke's Hailey Davis took an Abigal Burke pass and dribbled to just inside the right box. Davis placed a right-footed blast into the upper left corner of the net past MC keeper Abbey Coleman for her first goal of the season and eventual game-winner.
The Maroons outshot the Scots in the first half 5-3, but Maryville tried to rally against their defensive-minded hosts with a 4-3 shot advantage in the final period. MC challenged Roanoke keeper Chris Martin with only a trio of shot on goal while the Scots' keeper also turned away three blasts on goal. Martin earned the victory in net after the shutout.
Roanoke advances to 3-1 on the season while Maryville falls to 2-2 on the young campaign.
Maryville will prepare to challenge Ferrum College and Averett University in tough non-conference action on the road next weekend.
