Scots fight off rain, as Green's brace lifts MC past Berea, 4-1

Despite 4.2 inches of rain over the past 48 hours, Maryville College fought off blowing winds and rain to defeat Berea College, 4-1, on Thursday night.

The Scots used a pair of Kelsey Green goals, including the game-winner, en route to the key USA South victory.

Maryville would get things started early with an eighth-minute goal from Abbie Anderson. Anderson took a corner kick from Jenna Clothier off the right side. Anderson placed a perfect header to the left post for her first goal of the season and a 1-0 Scots' lead just 7:56 in.

In the 44th minute, Maryville would strike again. Emilie Guigou dribbled the right side of the field, as she crossed it to the middle of the box. Green would go one-on-one with the goalie, posting the goal to the middle past Mountaineer keeper Amber Follin.

Berea struck back just 49 second later. Madilyn Hord scored the unassisted goal, after MC keeper Abbey Coleman came out in the box. Hord got past the keeper, finding a wide open net to cut the Scots lead to 2-1 at the break.

Maryville posted 13 shots to just one in the first half, as Berea made their only attempt count. The Scots had a trio of shots on goal, as they led 5-0 in corner kicks.

Lexie Hill and Clothier led the way in the first half with a trio of shots.

Miranda Lukas gave the Scots some breathing room in the 81st minute, as MC took a 3-1 lead. Lukas lofted a shot from 18 yards out from the right side of the box, as she posted it in the upper left corner. It was Lukas' first goal of 2018.

In the 87th minute, Green would find her second goal of the match. She took a pass from Emilie Boone who drove the right side of the field. Boone found Green in the middle, as she beat her defender from 8 yards out for the 4-1 victory.

Maryville (4-4, 1-0 USA South) had 29 shots to just four for Berea (4-3, 0-2). The Scots had seven shots on goal to just two for the Mountaineers, as MC had 12 corner kicks to none.

Green had two goals on three shots for Maryville, Lukas scored a goal on one attempt. Anderson had a goal on two shots, while Guigou, Boone and Clothier each added an assist.

Bailey Sipos had seven shots, while Green, Clothier and Lexie Hill each had three shots on the night.

Berea was led by Hord's goal in one attempt. Glendy Pineda and Alanis Daugherty each had a shot on frame for the Mountaineers.

Maryville will have a day off before they travel to Montgomery, Ala. to face Huntingdon College. First touch for the USA South contest is slated for 5 p.m. EST, 4:00 p.m. CST.
