The Maryville College Scots took a tough loss on Wednesday night, as Transylvania University scored a first-half goal and held on for a 1-0 victory.
Maryville outshot the Pioneers, 26-13, as the Scots tallied 11 shots on goal to just nine by Transylvania.
Transylvania University would strike in the 26th minute of action. Ashley Chindo notched her third goal of the season on an unassisted attempt from 30 yards out. Chindo lofted a high shot that arched into the lower right corner for a 1-0 Pioneer lead.
That's where the score remained at the break, although the Scots outshot their Kentucky counterparts, 16-10. Both squads had seven shots on frame in the first stanza, as keeper Abbey Coleman recorded six saves.
Shannon Reagan led the Scots at the break, as the junior forward had four shots with a pair on frame.
Maryville's best opportunity in the match would come with just seven minutes left. Kelsey Green broke free, as she launched a shot just outside the reach of Transylvania keeper, Morgan Patton. The shot went just wide of the post on the far left side.
Coleman recorded eight saves in the match to keep Maryville in the match.
Transylvania (6-2) was led by Patton's 11 saves on the afternoon. Annie Stauffer had three shots – all on goal, as Chindo was 2-for-2 with a goal.
Maryville will look to rebound against Sewanee this weekend. The Scots host the Tigers on MC's pitch at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23.
