Maryville College's women's soccer team earned a hard fought USA South win against Greensboro College 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in Greensboro, NC.
The Scots' goals were scored by a pair of juniors. At the tail end of the first half, Ashley Howarth would beat a Pride defender before burying the ball in the net near the far post in the 42nd minute of action. The second goal of the game would be scored in the second half and ten minutes later in the 52nd minute as Phoebe Leo would also beat a Greensboro defender and find the back of the net. Maryville dominated the game outshooting the Pride 22-6 and also in corner kicks 5-2.
"We played well today after a tough match yesterday," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "I was happy with the way our ladies responded after playing the day before. We controlled the ball and the game from start to finish."
Maryville now sits at 8-3-1 on the season and 6-1-1 in USA South action. The Scots will next host a pair of USA South opponents over Homecoming as they play NC Wesleyan University on Saturday at 11:00 am and then play Sunday against Methodist University once again at 11:00 am.
