USA South Adds Women's Golf to Sport Sponsorship

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced the addition of women's golf as its 18th sponsored sport. There are currently seven member institutions (Greensboro College, Huntingdon College, Maryville College, Meredith College, Methodist University, Pfeiffer University and Piedmont College) who sponsor women's golf at the varsity level. USA South by-laws state a sport may become a Conference championship sport when seven of the member institutions field teams in that sport. Meredith College recently announced its women's golf program had reached varsity status, thus allowing for the sport to be officially sponsored by the Conference.

The USA South will conduct its first women's golf championship tournament in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on April 24-26 as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival which will include the crowning of eight League champions. The three-day women's golf championship will include 54-holes and take place at a course still to be determined. The USA South will also award Conference honors, including weekly and post-season All-Conference awards, to those worthy women's golf student-athlete according to the League's current award structure.

As would be the case with any other USA South sponsored sport, should the amount of member institutions fielding a women's golf program fall below seven at any time, the Conference will suspend its sponsorship of the sport.
