Patriots Inside Game Too Much For Scots in NCAA Tournament

The Maryville College women's basketball team was eliminated from the 2014 NCAA III Championships by the University of Texas at Tyler in Memphis, Tennessee on Friday evening by the score of 67-43.


The Scots took a 13-12 lead in the first six minutes with key baskets by Jordan Ballard. UT-Tyler promptly went on a 16-0 run that featured five baskets in the paint. The Patriots, up 28-13, cruised the final four minutes before the half to take a 35-21 lead into the intermission.


Nine inside first half buckets doubled for the Patriots in the second half. Maryville could not find an answer for Tyler's strong inside attack. Brittany King and She'Cara Humphrey combined for 28 points on 14-for-20 shooting, all directly under the basket.


The Patriots pulled away at the 8:42 mark with a 12-0 run that lasted over four minutes.


Maryville closes their season with a 22-7 mark. Depleted by injuries, MC standouts Mackenzie Puckett, Mindy Brackins, and Linley Dunn each attempted to give Coach Darrin Travillian key minutes to spell starters and seniors Lailah Farmer and Lauren Burnett who each gave over 37 minutes of solid effort. Burnett finished the game 6-for-11 from the field. She hit a pair of three-pointers to finish with a team-high 14 points. Jordan Ballard added 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting for a squad that hit only 34% of their shots.


Texas-Tyler will advance to the second round with a 26-3 record. The Patriots out rebounded MC 36-19 while hitting almost 56% of all their shots from the floor. They will face the winner of the Rhodes College and Spalding University (KY) matchup on Saturday in Memphis.
