The Maryville College women's basketball team extended their win streak to nine games with a key 76-72 road win at LaGrange College on Saturday afternoon.
Maryville outscored LaGrange 28-16 in the first half. MC's 22% shooting effort was trumped by LaGrange's early futility when they hit only 12% (4-of-32) from the field before the intermission.
Both coaching staffs made strong adjustments during the second half where Maryville held on to their 12 point advantage by out shooting LaGrange 56% to 42% and out rebounding the home team 51-42.
LaGrange (5-6, 0-4 USA South) was paced by Madison McDonald's 27 points. She was 8-for-12 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Caroline Brashier added 21 points on 5-of-8 shooting which included four treys. Heather Miller tossed in 16 points after going 10-for-14 from the free throw line.
Maryville (10-1, 4-0 USA South) saw Kiera Payne toss in 18 points while grabbing 11 rebounds. Tayler Smith hit 14 points and brought down a game-high 15 rebounds. Smith is one rebound shy of the 500 board plateau for her Mc career. Janell Menard connected for 17 points while Lauren Burnett contributed 13 points.
The Scots will return to action on Saturday, January 12th when they host USA South rival Greensboro College. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. and will be the first game in a USA South double header as the MC men host Ferrum College at 4:00. Make plans to attend and cheer on as MC senior Tayler Smith looks to eclipse the 500 rebound plateau against the Pride.
