The Maryville College Lady Scots had five players deposit double digits in scoring to cruise to their eighth consecutive victory on the hard court. MC turned down USA South foe Piedmont College by the scored of 74-55 in Demorest, Georgia on Friday evening.
Maryville jumped out to an 11 point halftime lead (44-23) and moved to 9-1 on the season and 3-0 in the USA South by forcing 15 Lion turnovers and holding the home team to 32% shooting.
The Scots connected on 41% of their shots including a 6-for-15 effort from beyond the arc. MC out-rebounded Piedmont 45-31 to remain undefeated in league challenges.
MC was paced by Kiera Payne's double-double. The senior led Maryville with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Tayler Smith was strong in the paint with a dozen points and seven rebounds. Freshman Mackenzie Puckett added 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. Alex Bond sank 10 points while hauling down nine boards. Janell Menard chipped in 10 points and Lauren Burnett went 3-for-5 in three-point attempts for nine points on the evening.
Maryville will continue their USA South trip through Georgia on Saturday as they travel to LaGrange. Tip-off against the Panthers is scheduled for 2:00.
