The USA South Athletic Conference's men's tennis coaches have released their 2019 preseason polls, and the Maryville College Scots were tabbed sixth in the West Division.
Each divisional preseason poll only includes votes from coaches within that particular division-only. Head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
Chosen as USA South East Division favorites was N.C. Wesleyan College, led by head coach Albie Brice. The Bishops captured both the USA South Regular Season and Tournament crowns last spring for the tenth consecutive season. N.C. Wesleyan received 25 total points and five first place votes in this year's preseason poll, finishing ahead of Methodist which gathered 21 points and the remaining first place vote.
Placing atop the USA South West Division poll were Covenant College, led by head coach John Hirte, and Piedmont College, who will be directed by first-year head coach Dick Stockton. Each team received 33 total points in the voting while the Scots totaled four first place votes and the Lions grabbed the final three first place votes. LaGrange college was third in the poll with 25 points.
The USA South welcomed Brevard College and Pfeiffer University last season as institutions reclassifying from NCAA Division II status. This year each of their teams are included in the preseason poll and eligible for regular season championship honors. Both Brevard and Pfeiffer still will not be eligible to qualify for the USA South Tournament and/or the NCAA Tournament until full NCAA Division III membership is established.
The 2019 USA South Men's Tennis Tournament will be played April 26-28 in LaGrange, Georgia as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival, hosted by the City of LaGrange and Troup County. Matches will take place at both the McCluskey Tennis Center and LaGrange College's Varsity Courts. The top-three teams from each division following regular season play will advance to the tournament.
