The Maryville College Scots fell on Wednesday night to Brevard College, as the Tornados handed MC its first USA South loss, 5-0.
The matched proved to be a physical one, as the it saw 18 fouls and 10 cards issued in the 90-minute bout.
MC had won 17 consecutive USA South matches dating back to last season.
Maryville outshout the home team, 20-14, but Brevard's Patrick Hall recorded eight saves on the night to secure the shutout. The Scots tallied a trio of saves on eight Tornado shots on goal.
Brevard got on the board in the 32nd minute, as Matheus Masukawa took a Joao Monteiro pass , and right-footing it past the keeper. The Tornados led 1-0 early.
Masuwaka added an assist along side Marquis Dickerson, as the duo found Pedro Herrera. A throw-in and a head flick found Herrera for a header past the keeper down the right side. Brevard led 2-0 at the 36:39 mark, as the score remained 2-0 at the half.
The Tornados added their third goal in the 52nd minute, as Eric Lenhart scored on Monteiro's second assist of the night. Brevard added unassisted goals by Lucca Silvani and Adam Spencer in the 72nd and 81st minutes to secure the 5-0 USA South victory.
Maryville (7-3, 5-1 USAS) was led by National Player of the Week Johnny Rakhmonberdiev who had four shots and two shots on goal. Trevor McDonald had three shots with on one goal, while Aaron Rucker added two shots on frame. Austin Vinyard had four shots with a pair on goal, as well.
Brevard (2-4-2, 2-1-2) was paced by Masukawa's goal and assist, while Monteiro added two assists on the night.
Maryville will regroup, as they host LaGrange College on Saturday, Oct. 5. The USA South match is slated for 4:00 p.m., as the Scots will then take on Centre College on Sunday, Oct. 6 for a 2:00 p.m. first touch.
