Scots fall to 12th in final round of Emory Invitational

The Maryville College golf squad fell five spots in the final round of the Discover Dekalb Emory Invitational on Sunday, as they closed out the tournament with a 12th-place finish.

MC shot a 309 – six shots above their first round – as they closed the first round out in seventh place.

Maryville College's Wil Manuel improved two strokes on the second day, as he finished tied for 29th. His four-over 74 on Sunday gave him a 150 for the tournament.

Huntingdon College produced the top two individuals in the tournament, as Jon Colten Stanaland finished as the individual champion with a three-under 137. Mark Connelly shot a two-under on the second day for the Hawks to earn second place with a one-under 139.

Emory University's Matt Organisak matched Connelly's two-under with a 68 of his own, as he claimed third with an even-par 140.

Emory took the individual crown with a 286-278, 564, as Huntingdon took second with a 285-285, 570. Methodist University took third with a 294-283, 577.

Manuel's 76-74, 150 led the Scots, as Garrett Compliment improved by a trio of shots on the second day. He carded a 78-75, 153, as Tyler Bray tallied a 72-84, 156. Doug Whitten tied Bray with a 77-79, 156, while D.J. Shelton added a 79-81, 160.

That wraps up the regular season for the Scots, as they set their sights on the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament. MC will play April 12-14 on the Highlands Country Club in LaGrange, Ga.
