Scots ranked eighth after first round of Discover Dekalb Emory Invitational

The Maryville College Scots are ranked eighth after the first day of the Discover Dekalb Emory University Invitational, as they head into today's round only five shots off fourth.

The Scots carded a 303 in the opening round of the tournament, as freshman standout Tyler Bray ranks tied for 11th.

Bray finished the opening round with a 2-over par 72. The Lutz, Fla. native is only two strokes off third place going into the second day of competition.

USA South foe Huntingdon College holds the top spot in both team and individual play. The Hawks carded a 5-over 285 and lead host Emory University by only a stroke – 286 – headed to the final round.

Methodist University tallied a 294, while Sewanee holds a 298.

Huntingdon's Jon Colten Stanaland held the top individual spot with a 3-under 67. Emory's Eric Yiu is only one shot behind with a 68, while golfers recorded even-par 70s.

Wil Manuel followed Bray's 72 with a 6-over 76, as senior Doug Whitten had a score of 77. Garrett Compliment added a 78 to round out the team scoring, as D.J. Shelton posted a 79.

Day two of the tournament is already underway on the Smoke Rise Country Club in Stone Mountain, Ga.
