Maryville College grinded out a top-10 finish on Tuesday afternoon, as they improved by seven strokes in the second round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate in Montgomery, Ala.
The Scots finished in ninth in a field of 15 teams, just three shots off sixth place. MC shot a 315 in round one, before firing a 308 in the second day of competition.
Scots' golfers combined for eight birdies on day two of the competition, while defeating two top-25 squads in Calvin and Carnegie-Mellon.
Wittenberg University won the tournament on the 6,979 par-72 course at Wynlakes Golf and Country Club. Wittenberg shot a 299-291 for a two-day total of 590, as Huntingdon College took second with a 293-301, 594.
The Hawks' Drew Mathers won the tournament with a two-under 142, as Berry College's Henry Jones finished second with a one-under 143.
Maryville's Wil Manuel led the Scots with a pair of matching 77 score. He shot a 154 for the two-day tournament to rank tied for 29th in the field. Freshman Tyler Bray shot matching 78s for a 156 in the two-round tournament, as Garrett Compliment tied him for 35th place.
Compliment shot a day one 79, before improving for a second-round 77 to match Bray's 56.
D.J. Shelton shot a 158, improving by four strokes on day two, as Doug Whitten improved by 11 strokes for the fourth 77 of the day for the Scots. Shelton finished tied for 50th with a 158, while Whitten was tied for 68th with a 165 score.
Peyton Wheat played the tournament as an individual, as he finished tied for 79. He improved three strokes on day two for a 171 total.
Maryville will look next to take on the Discover Dekalb Emory Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, April 7-8. The tournament will take place on the Smoke Rise Country Club in Stone Mountain, Ga.
