The Maryville College men's golf team finished the first round of the Bobby Nichols Invitational at the Sevierville Golf Club, River Course, in Sevierville, Tennessee on Sunday tied for 12th with a 19-over par 307 as a team.
Eastern Kentucky University completed the initial round with a one-under par 287 to pace the 14-team event.
Individually, Marshall's Alex Weiss blistered the course with a 4-under par 68 to pace the 84 competitors.
Maryville's Garrett Compliment finished the first round with a one-over par 73. His 18th place paces the Scots after the first 18 holes. D.J. Shelton finished the course tied for 45th place with a four-over par 76. Wil Manuel finished six over with a 78 while Tyler Bray added an 80 on his first attempt at the course. Doug Whitten finished the Scots' scoring with an 83.
MC's Compliment was 7th in par 3 scoring while Bray placed 12th in the same statistical category. Both Compliment and Shelton finished -1 in par 5 scoring. Wil Manuel paced the Scots with pars on 14 holes in the first round.
Round two will begin at 10:15 a.m. on Monday at the Sevierville Golf Club.
