The Maryville College men's basketball team opened their 2019 USA South schedule with a hard-fought 68-62 loss at the hands of Covenant College on Wednesday evening in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
Maryville College sophomore Nicholas Clifton posted a double-double with a team-high 24 points and team-high 12 rebounds. Clifton went 9-of-12 from the floor while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Senior guard Joshua Brooks added 13 points while dishing out four assists. Maryville tallied a 36-29 rebound advantage with freshman Felix Uadiale grabbing nine boards.
Covenant (4-2, 1-0 USA South) was paced by Will Crumly's 29 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor while sinking 9-of-11 free-throws. Chris Barnette added 19 points while Promise Igbano tossed in 11 points off the bench. The visiting Scots finished 21-of-42 from the floor for a 50-percent effort.
Maryville finished 22-of-58 from the floor for almost a 38-percent success rate.
Maryville (0-6, 0-1 USA South) will prepare to host USA South foe LaGrange College on Saturday, December 14 at 2:00 p.m. on Randy Lambert Court.
