Maryville College's Emier Bowman posted a career-best 35 points to help the Scots defeat USA South rival William Peace University 93-57 on Saturday afternoon in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
The Scots' defense forced nine first-half turnovers and only allowed the Pacers a 37% shooting effort (11-for-30) that included a 15% success rate (2-for-13) from long distance. Maryville pulled to a 50-33 halftime advantage when Bowman went 9-for-11 from the floor for 21 points. MC finished the first stanza hitting 56% from the floor (18-for-32).
Maryville's second-half defense allowed only 24 total points as William Peace shot 22% (7-for-31) including a 2-for-18 effort from beyond the arc. MC's Bowman finished the game with a 4-for-7 effort from the floor and a team-high 14 points while helping the Scots hit 41% from the floor to close the challenge. MC went 6-for-11 from three-point land to finish the contest.
William Peace (9-11, 5-7 USA South) had a trio of players post double-digit scoring. Tyson Sellers had a team-high 13 points off the bench while John Ingram added 12 and Trey Bryant finished with 10.
Maryville (14-6, 10-3 USA South) took advantage of Peace miscues and tallied 20 points off 23 Pacer turnovers. Emier Bowman finished with a game-high 35 points on 13-of-18 shooting. He deposited 9-of-10 free throws while posting seven rebounds, two steals, two blocks, a pair of dunks, and an assist. Calvin Songster dropped a trio of treys for 13 points. Dante Hoppa and Kaleb Estes each tallied nine points with the duo combining for 13 boards. Nick Clifton added eight points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Scots will now prepare to host USA South foe Pfeiffer University on Sunday. Tip-off in the Cooper Athletic Center is slated for 2:00 p.m.
