Scots pull away in the final period to defeat USA South foe Brevard 56-46

The Maryville College Scots claimed their sixth consecutive victory with a 56-46 decision over USA South Athletic Conference opponent Brevard College on Saturday evening in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.


The Scots took a 28-20 lead into the half after hitting only 29 % of their shots including a 4-for-12 effort from three-point territory. Brevard kept pace with an 8-for-20 shooting effort from the floor (40%) and a 4-for-8 success rate from long distance.


Maryville's defense held the Tornados to only a 34% shooting effort from the floor (9-for-26). The league visitors could not find their outside touch hitting only 25% (3-of-12) from beyond the arc. MC pulled away after hitting 42% from the floor going 11-for-26 to close the game.


Brevard (5-14, 2-10 USA South) was paced by Cannon Lamb's 19 points off the bench. Lamb deposited 7-of-10 shots including a 4-for-4 effort from three-point land while grabbing eight rebounds. Levi Lamb added nine points and nine rebounds while Demari Hopper tossed in eight points as the Tornadoes finished the challenge 17-for-46 (37%) from the floor including a 7-for-20 (35%) effort from three-point land.


Maryville (13-6, 9-3 USA South) was led in scoring by Calvin Songster's 13 points. Dante Hoppa added 10 points and six boards while Nick Clifton recorded another double-digit rebound performance with 10. Kaleb Estes had five assists while Emier Bowman posted five steals and a block on defense. The Scots finished the game hitting only35% from the floor (20-for-57) while connecting on only 6-of 20 trey attempts (30%). MC outrebounded the Tornados 40-34 to preserve the home victory.


"This was a good game to win after such an emotional victory last night," stated MC Head Coach Randy Lambert. "I'm very pleased with the development of this team and I hope we keep the momentum going into the final league weekends of the regular season."


Coach Lambert's squad will return to action next weekend when they host USA South foes William Peace on Saturday (2:00) and Pfeiffer on Sunday (2:00).
