Strong second half allows Scots to pull past LaGrange 86-56

Maryville College junior guard Kaleb Estes paced MC with 14 points while Emier Bowman added 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds to help the Scots defeat LaGrange College 86-56 on Sunday afternoon in LaGrange, Georgia.


Bowman tallied his entire 13 points in the first half on 4-of-8 shooting while the squad finished 14-for-30 from the floor (47%). The Scots defense forced 10 Panther turnovers while holding LaGrange to a 32% shooting effort (11-for-34) that included a 0-for-9 pace from beyond the arc.


MC's defensive prowess spilled over into the final period holding the hosts to a 10-for-27 effort (37%) from the floor. The Scots offense took off as Dante Hoppa posted 11 points on 4-of-4 shooting while freshman guard JR Sanders closed with eight points on 3-of-5 shooting. Maryville outpaced LaGrange 50-29 to close the tough league road challenge.


LaGrange (3-4, 1-2 USA South) was led by Jalen McCallum's 18 points off the bench. He was 7-for-9 from the floor while completing a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds. Julian Cameron also came off the Panther's bench to toss in 15 points while going 4-for-9 from long distance.


Maryville (6-3, 3-0 USA South) is riding a four-game winning streak. They were paced by Estes' 5-for-8 shooting that included a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Bowman was 4-for-11 from the floor but also connected on 5-of-7 free-throws. Hoppa finished 4-for-5 from the floor while sophomore guard Daquan Summers added 10 points off the bench on 3-of-6 shooting. MC finished 32-for-66 (48%) as a team from the floor while going 9-of-18 (50%) from three-point territory. The Scots won the battle of the boards by outrebounding the Panthers 49-37.


The Scots will take some time off to celebrate the holiday season and return to the court on Wednesday, January 3rd. They will host Covenant College in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium with a 7:30 p.m. scheduled tip-off.
