Hart's Game-Winning Hit Lifts Scots Past Brevard in 11th

Pinch-hitter Eric Hart laced a two-out game-winning single in the 11th inning to lift Maryville College past Brevard College 3-2 in a USA South Athletic Conference baseball game in Maryville, Tennessee on Saturday afternoon.


Maryville's Logan Hayes deposited a one-out opposite field single to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning and promptly stole second base. Centerfielder Jake Petersen plated Hayes with a two-out double just past a diving right fielder to give the Scots a 1-0 late lead.


MC right fielder Peyton Sawyer drove home the Scots' second run with a laser to right field scoring Petersen giving Maryville a 2-0 advantage.


Brevard loaded the bases in the ninth inning on a pair of walks and an opposite-field single. A Maryville miscue gave the Tornados their first run before Jadon Wooten walked to score Holden Lanier to knot the score at 2-2.


In the bottom of the 11th inning, Mike Homan laced a single to left center and stole second base. He advanced to third base on a Peyton Sawyer fly out. Pinch-hitter Eric Hart lifted a two-out game-winning single to send Homan home for the key 3-2 league victory.


Maryville's Jordan Davis had another quality start scattering six hits over 8.1 innings while striking out eight. Samuel Joiner earned the win in relief going 2.2 innings allowing no hits and striking out a pair.
