Scots shutout Wasps 4-0 behind strong staff outing

The Maryville College baseball team used a dozen hits and strong pitching performance from Damian Lusby to defeat Emory & Henry College 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon on MC's Scotland Yard.


Maryville put up a trio of runs in their first offensive inning. A Mike Homan single to left field sent Jake Petersen home before a two-out double by Cody Gregory plated both Homan and Peyton Sawyer to give the Scots a 3-0 advantage.


MC's Damian Lusby earned the mound victory after tossing five shutout innings scattering only a pair of hits. Trevor Townsend, D.J. Cooper, and Samuel Joiner maintained the staff shutout collectively striking out four and allowing two hits over four relief innings.


The Scots added an insurance run in the eighth inning went pinch runner Ian Campbell scored on a Mike Homan RBI ground out to third base.


Maryville's offense was paced by Christian Poulsen (3-for-5) and Mike Homan (3-for-5, 1 run scored, 2 RBI). Jake Petersen and Cody Gregory each added a pair of hits with Gregory going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.


Emory & Henry's J.T. Agosto suffered the mound loss after scattering seven hits over four innings allowing three earned runs.


Maryville will jump back into USA South action this weekend with a three-game series in Montgomery, Alabama against Huntingdon College. The Scots will return to Scotland Yard on March 6th.
