The No. 19 Maryville College Scots earned their 23rd win of the season on Tuesday afternoon, as MC toppled non-conference foe Berry College, 4-1.
Townsend earned his first collegiate win on the mound in 4.2 innings pitched. He gave up just three hits and one run while striking out three. McGee earned his third save, pitching the final two outs without a hit or run.
Maryville was led offensively by Alden Wright on the day, as the designated hitter went 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. He also tallied a triple to his credit on the day.
Maryville College would strike in the bottom of the fourth. Andrew Henry drew a lead-off walk, before stealing second. Jake Petersen would score him with a looping RBI single to right-center, before Alden Wright's single and a Berry error would put runners on the corners. Wright stole second, before Mike Homan's two-RBI double down the left-field line plated both Petersen and Wright for a 3-0 lead.
MC would add to their lead in the bottom of the sixth, as Wright led off the inning with a triple to left. Homan earned his third RBI of the game, sending a hit back where it came from. The single up the middle scored Wright from third for a four-run Scots' advantage.
A pair of hit-by-pitch and Wright's fourth hit of the day would load the bases with only one out in the bottom of the eight. However, a double play ball would end the threat and keep the score at 4-0 going into the ninth inning.
Jacob Dell would put Berry on the board in the ninth inning, as the senior catcher lofted a solo shot onto Honaker Field. An infield single and a hit-by-pitch would bring the tying run to bat before McGee came in to close the door.
Maryville (23-5) was led by Wright's perfect performance at the plate. Homan went 2-for-4 with a trio of RBI, as Petersen went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Ezell added a hit, while Henry scored a run for the Scots.
Berry College (17-8) saw Devin Post and Delk each record two-hit afternoons, as Delk scored the only run and RBI.
Maryville College will look next to a weekend USA South series against Berea College. MC will play the Mountaineers at 7 p.m. on Friday, before hosting Senior Day beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
