Scots rally late to defeat Ferrum 3-2 behind solid pitching by Logsdon, Jones

The Maryville College baseball team rallied in the eighth inning for a pair of runs to defeat USA South rival Ferrum College 3-2 in Sunday afternoon on MC's Scotland Yard.

MC freshman right-hander Joe Logsdon scattered five hits over 5.1 innings while allowing only a pair of earned runs. Senior Joe Jones came on and closed the door over the final 3.2 innings to earn his third win of the season. Jones allowed only two hits while striking out five Panthers.

Ferrum got on the scoreboard first in the first inning when Jake Martin singled to right field scoring Dominick Claxton who led off the game being hit by a pitch.

The Panthers went up 2-0 in the third inning when Lane Deaver delivered a sacrifice fly scoring Ty Comer.

MC began their comeback in the sixth when Bryce Redaja bashed his league leading sixth homerun of the season over the right field wall.

After seven complete innings, Ferrum's Joey Pride allowed only four hits while striking out six Scots. The Panther bullpen of Jared Talley would suffer the loss after Maryville would plate a pair of runs in the eighth.

Alden Wright led off the inning getting hit by a pitch. Pinch runner Hayden Hollingsworth advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt. Sam Jokerst sacrificed Hollingsworth to third just before he would score on a passed ball.

With the game tied at 2-2, Andrew Henry doubled down the left field line. The second baseman took third base on a wild pitch and then scored the eventual game winner on another wild pitch.

Ferrum (11-11, 6-3 USA South) was paced offensively by Jake Martin's 3-for-4 effort while Tim Ortega added a pair of hits.

Maryville (13-11, 7-5 USA South) had only five hits on offense led by Andrew Henry (2-for-4).

The Scots will host Calvin College (MI) on Monday evening. The first pitch on Scotland Yard is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
