Assistant Athletics Director for Communications
Eric Etchison (Maryville College, '88/ United States Sports Academy, '91)
The 2019-20 academic year marks the 28th year for Eric Etchison as an athletic staff member at Maryville College, his 25th season as the Scots' Director of Sports Information. In January of 2011, his title of Director of Sports Information was elevated to Assistant Athletics Director for Communications. He serves as an AD liaison for baseball and softball throughout the year.
Etchison has assisted in the administration of more than 30 NCAA tournament events. As an NCAA liaison, he helped direct four NCAA Division III baseball regional tournaments and four national NCAA baseball championships. As a sports information director, he has assisted in the success of four NCAA Division III soccer regionals, 10 NCAA Division III men's basketball regionals, and 11 NCAA Division III women's basketball regionals.
Etchison has been the main force behind the implementation of new technology into the MC athletic department. For his efforts, he was named the recipient of the 2008-2009 Sharon A. Murphy Crane Distinguished Service Award from the College.
Etchison ended his collegiate coaching career in 2006, after guiding the Scots diamondmen for 14 successful seasons. His 280 career victories rank him second on MC's career coaching victory list. He served the NCAA Division III on the Baseball Committee from 2001-2005; serving as the national chair from 2003-2005. He represented the ABCA on the All-American Committee from 2001-2006. He served collegiate baseball on the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee for all divisions from 2008- 2011.
Etchison received his bachelor's degree from Maryville College in 1988 and his master's degree in sports administration from the United States Sports Academy in 1991. Teaching athletic administration and orientation classes in the past, Etchison served the College as an adjunct faculty member.
A native of Austintown, Ohio, Etchison was an All-Steel Valley performer on the 1983 Ohio State runner-up Austintown-Fitch High School Falcons. His 1983 team was honored in 2009 by Austintown-Fitch by their induction into the school's athletic Hall of Fame. He went on to Maryville and became a four-year starter behind the plate for the Scots. Etchison's offensive skills earned him two All ODAC selections. His .390 career average also helped him earn team MVP honors on three occasions.
In October of 2010, Etchison was honored by induction into the Maryville College Wall of Fame for his contributions as a student-athlete, baseball coach, and athletic administrator while at Maryville.
Eric is married to MC alum Bonnie Bouch ('87) and they have a 25-year-old daughter DeAnna Lois who graduated from Tennessee Tech University and is a resident company member at the Cumberland County Playhouse.
