Maryville College moved to 8-2-1 on the 2017 season, as the Orange and Garnet won the Battle of the Scots, 2-0, on Tuesday night.
The Scottish tussle was a rare non-conference matchup between the two schools, as Maryville used a pair of first-half goals to earn the victory.
In the 11th minute of action, MC struck first on a high cross from the sideline on the right side of the field from Miranda Lukas. Shannon Reagan collected the pass with a header over keeper Kayla Bailey, and into the bottom right of the net for a 1-0 lead early on.
In the 37th minute, Maryville would strike again. Jenna Clothier collected a pass from Abbie Anderson about 15 yards in front of the box, dribbling down the field. She made a defender miss, as she crossed the ball from left to right into the top of the net for her second goal of the season and a 2-0 Scots' win.
Maryville was led by the defense of core backline of Lukas, Kelly Allen, Alyssa Kral and Sarah Wickman in Tuesday's win, as they held Covenant to just two shots on the evening. Only one of those were on goal, as Maryville posted an incredible 20 shots in the match.
Abbey Coleman earned her third collegiate win, moving to 3-0 this season. She took the shutout in 90 minutes with one save.
MC saw Reagan post four shots on the night, as she recorded two on frame with her one goal. Bailey Sipos had three shots, while Lukas, Meagan Eiselstein, Lindsey Lewallan and Kara Tubb each had a pair. Lukas and Anderson recorded assists, while Clothier tallied her goal on one shot.
Covenant (5-5) saw Paige Simons and Lizzy Hightower record shots, as Hightower was the only Georgian Scot to record a shot on goal.
Maryville College will travel to Berea College tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 4 for a 7 p.m. USA South matchup.
The Scots will return home this weekend for a pair of key USA South contests against Huntingdon (Saturday, Oct. 7, 2 p.m.) and Agnes Scott College (Sunday, Oct. 8, 1 p.m.). MC will host senior day against the Scotties on Sunday afternoon.
