Beckett Claims MC Invitational Individual Title, Scots finish 6th

The Maryville College cross country program hosted the MC Invitational meet on campus Saturday, September 30th.

The Scots' women finished second in their 6K battle as Covenant College took the team just ahead of MC.

The women's individual title went to Concordia University's Emily Villines. She completed the challenging course in 24:05. Just on her heals at the finish was Covenant's Lilly Smith with a 24:07 finish. Maryville had some excellent time by a pair of harriers. Taylor Williams was the first Maryville runner to cross the finish line, placing 7th in a time of 25:58. Right behind Williams, MC's Susanna Cook recorded a personal best with a 26:0 time. Kaitlyn Carringer ended in 13th place with a 26:41 pace while Lea Mulligan was 14th posting a 26:45 effort. Maddie Zawisza finished in the top 20 with a 28:41 time. Having five runners in the top 20 helped Maryville claim the second-place finish on the day.

The Maryville College men were paced individually by sophomore Daniel Beckett. Beckett set the pace for the field at 28:00 claiming the individual title. Covenant College took the next six places helping the Georgian Scots take the team title. Maryville would finish sixth of eleven participating institutions. MC's Ryan Lay was their next highest finisher at 34th with a 33:19 pace.

Maryville's program will now prepare for the Piedmont College Invitational on October 7th in Demorest, Georgia.
