The Maryville College men's soccer team defeated USA South foe William Peace University in Cary, North Carolina by the score of 7-1 on Friday evening.
The Scots lit up the scoreboard in the first half just over seven minutes into the challenge. Senior midfielder Cody VanKerschaever deposited his 4th goal of the season from just outside the 18-yard mark on an assist from Gavin Daugherty giving Maryville an early 1-0 advantage.
Just ten minutes later sophomore Johnny Rakhmonberdiev touched his 5th assist of the season to Michael Quatrano just inside the six-yard marker. Quatrano beat Pacer keeper Christian Ortiz for his 4th goal of the season to put the Scots up 2-0.
As the 32nd minute approached, Maryville's Trevor McDonald blasted a shot deflected by Ortiz. Rakhmonberdiev collected the pass from VanKerschaever and touched the net for his team-leading 8th goal of the season.
Just before the half, MC's Austin Vineyard directed a perfect low corner kick to Tristan Skelton who collected the ball within a scrum in front of the net and slipped it by the keeper for his 1st goal of the season.
At the intermission, Maryville led the host Pacers 4-0.
Maryville outshot William Peace 12-7 directing 10 attempts on the Pacer keeper in the first stanza.
In the opening seconds of the second half, the Scots proceeded to attack the Pacer net collectively. Gavin Dougherty dropped a through ball to VanKerschaever and the Apopka, Florida native dropped his 5th goal of the season to make the score 5-0.
In the 53rd minute, Cody VanKerschaever assisted the sixth goal of the challenge to Rakhmonberdiev who directed his 9th goal of the season giving the Scots a 6-0 lead.
In the 68th minute, Michael Quatrano completed his brace of the day on an unassisted goal inside the six-yard mark off a rebound giving the Scots a commanding 7-0 lead.
William Peace got on the scoreboard in the 76th minute when Chris Deleon took a rebound off a Junior Ayala penalty kick inside the six-yard mark stroking his 11th goal of the season.
As time expired, Maryville had out-shot the Pacers 20-18 with 18 shots on goal. Peace's Ortiz recorded 11 saves during the loss in net. The Scots' Ryan Jorgensen earned the win in net sharing honors with Luke Wheat as the duo combined for 10 saves.
The victory moves Maryville to 13-2 on the season and 8-1 in USA South action. William Peace falls to 6-10-1 overall on the season.
The Scots will continue their weekend travels in Greensboro, North Carolina on Saturday to take on USA South rival Greensboro College at 4:00 p.m.
