Scots shutout LaGrange 4-0

The Maryville College men's soccer team advanced to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in USA South action with a 4-0 shutout victory over LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia on Friday evening.

 

MC's trio of keepers (Ryan Jorgensen, Luke Wheat, and Deonta Kensinger) shared the shutout in goal turning away only one shot on goal by the Panthers.

 

Maryville took the early lead when Caleb Lucas directed a pass to Cody Vankerschaever. Vankerschaever, a junior from Apopka, Florida, beat LaGrange keeper Bonner Brooks at the 21:05 mark.

 

The Scots went up 2-0 just before the half when Tim Baker found senior Hayden Puryear for his second goal of the season. The assist was Baker's second of the school year.

 

In the first five minutes of the second half, freshman Aaron Rucker redirected a Tim Baker pass for his first collegiate goal.

 

MC concluded their scoring at the 43:44 mark when Michael Quatrano passed to Kory Yarlett allowing the Maryville, Tennessee native to tally his second career goal in the orange and garnet.

 

The loss moves LaGrange to 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in USA South challenges.

 

Maryville will travel to Montgomery, Alabama this evening to challenge the Hawks of Huntingdon College on Sunday evening.
