Scots split with Pfeiffer; Series finale rained out

The Maryville College baseball team finished their 2019 regular season schedule with a USA South split with Pfeiffer University on Thursday evening.

Pfeiffer starting pitcher Nick Richmond (6-0) limited the Scots to only a pair of hits over seven innings on the mound while striking out seven. Derek Dyson and Brodrick Rierson closed the game for the Falcons allowing only one hit over the final pair of innings.

Gabe Lopez, Peyton Sawyer, and Mike Homan recorded the only hits for MC during the 9-0 setback.

In the nightcap, whatever Coach Church told them between games set fire to the Scots' bats. After giving up five runs in the first inning, Maryville exploded for 15 runs on 19 hits to claim the season finale 15-8.

Mike Homan (3-for-4) and Eric Hart (0-for-3) each had a trio of key RBI. Gabe Lopez and Christian Poulsen each finished with three hits while Wesley Peersen, Peyton Sawyer, Joey Tomlinson, and Logan Hayes each had a couple of base knocks.

Jacob Gossett did a solid job in relief while Zach Messinger (3-3) earned the win with 2.2 innings of four-hit relief. Samuel Joiner closed the key victory with 2.1 innings of one-hit relief.

The final game of the series set for Friday has been washed out by the wet weather.

Maryville will be the No. 7 seed in the upcoming USA South baseball tournament in LaGrange, Georgia beginning on April 25th.
