Scots pound out 20 hits in 17-7 win over Millsaps

The Maryville College baseball team used a 20-hit offensive explosion to go undefeated at the Millsaps College Invitational after defeating the host Majors 17-7 on Sunday in Jackson, Mississippi.

 

A dozen of the Scots' 20 hits came from four players. First baseman Peyton Sawyer went 3-for-6 with a pair of RBI. Third baseman Mike Homan finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a trio of RBI. Right fielder Cody Gregory went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a run driven in. Left fielder Ryan Jones went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three key RBI. Christian Poulsen and Drew Johnson also tacked on a pair of runs driven in each.

 

Maryville's Trevor Townsend came on in relief to earn the victory on the mound. Townsend scattered five hits over 4.1 innings striking out four Millsaps hitters. Samuel Joiner, Nick McClendon, and Rocky Mauriello closed with an inning of work each allowing only one collective hit.

 

Maryville (3-0) will travel to Berry College on Tuesday, February 12. First pitch against the Vikings is slated for 3:00 p.m.
