Maryville College's Hayden Hollingsworth was named the USA South Rookie of the Week after his performances against Centre College and Berea College.
Hollingsworth helped Maryville to a 3-1 record on the week, as the Nashville, Tenn. native went a combined 7-for-15 in the four games.
"Hayden had a phenomenal week for us and has really been a spark since he's been in our lineup," Head Coach Cody Church said. "He brings great energy and enthusiasm for the game, which is infectious to the rest of our club. He has worked very hard for his opportunity, and it's nice to see guys get rewarded with success."
Hollingsworth collected .467 hitting percentage on the week, while tallying a .500 on-base percentage for the Scots, who's offense exploded over the weekend.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-hander added five runs, four RBI, two triples, two walks, four stolen bases and a sacrifice to his credit.
In a close 3-2 loss to Centre College, Hollingsworth had a 1-for-4 afternoon with a triple in the top of the third with only one out. In the one-run loss, Hollingsworth was stranded on third with back-to-back strikeouts behind him.
In Saturday's 14-5 win over Berea, the Davidson Academy product went 4-for-5 with a trio of runs and an RBI. He also added a walk in the first game of the double header.
During the second game against the Mountaineers, Hollingsworth continued his dominance with a 2-for-4 day. He added two runs, two RBI and a walk in the 9-3 Maryville victory.
Finally, in Sunday's 14-2, run-rule victory, Hollingsworth added an RBI for the Scots.
On the season, this third baseman has a .308 batting average (12-of-39) as he's scored 15 runs for the Scots. He has eight RBI with three triples and a double. Hollingsworth leads Maryville on the year with 15 of the Scots' 68 stolen bases. That mark also ranks him third in the USA South Athletic Conference.
"Hayden has a special knack for stealing bases," Church said. "He was tops in the conference at times this year, and he was only a pinch runner. His instincts on the bases are second to none."
Hollingsworth will look to continue his streak with a 3 p.m. game at Emory & Henry College on Tuesday, April 4.
Maryville returns home on Wednesday, April 5, for a 5 p.m. game against Centre College, before wrapping up the regular season with a three game series against LaGrange College on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8.
