Maryville College Athletics, adidas and Athletic Shop Team Sports announced today that adidas will become the Scots' official brand for athletic footwear, apparel and accessories through the 2021-2022 academic year.

"Maryville College looks forward to expanding its regionally recognized brand of excellence on and off the playing venues within the NCAA Division III alongside one of the world's leaders in athletic apparel," said Director of Athletics Kandis Schram. "The adidas and Maryville College brands are built on a passion for sports and a sporting lifestyle. We are committed to continuously strengthening our brands collectively with the best MC student-athlete experience."

According to Schram, new uniforms for Maryville College teams will be phased in over a two-year period.

Maryville College fields 14 NCAA Division III-sanctioned sports. A major competitor in the USA South Athletic Conference, the Scots regularly celebrate conference championships, as well as "Coach of the Year" and "Player of the Year" honors. Teams regularly see NCAA tournament play.

Chattanooga-based Athletic Shop Team Sports will take care of printing, embroidery and other production services related to outfitting the Scots. Sales representative Brian Loveday said his company and adidas were honored to partner with the College.

"Maryville College has great history of success with its athletic programs and, coupled with a great brand like adidas, will continue to thrive and grow in both recruiting, retention and on-court/on-field presence," he said. "adidas is one of the largest and most recognized brands in the world and used by hundreds of professional athletes in all sports.

"The Athletic Shop also has a rich history in the team sports industry, providing exceptional service to hundreds of schools in Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and Kentucky."

There are two options for fans to get adidas MC branded items. A fan store has been created at Fan Store with some introductory Scots' adidas gear through March 9th., the College's online store for Scots merchandise, carries adidas-branded T-shirts, polo shirts, hats, shorts and hoodies.

Coaches pleased

Shaun Hayes, Maryville College head football coach, thanked Schram for supporting a move he believes will benefit the entire athletic department and pointed out adidas's reputation among top collegiate football programs. The sportswear manufacturer has agreements with Texas A&M, Mississippi State and the University of Miami.

"Now we can associate our program with a brand that will not only excite our current family but future members of the Fighting Scots family," Hayes said. "I couldn't be more excited to have the opportunity to wear the three stripes, and I know our entire organization feels the same way."

Like Hayes, Head Baseball Coach Cody Church said that he has seen some of the biggest baseball programs in the country – teams like UCLA and the University of Louisville – also move to adidas sportswear.

"adidas brings some serious brand recognition with outstanding apparel and equipment with it," he said. "This is huge news for our current and future players to be able to have such a great brand representing our programs."

Pepe Fernandez, head coach of Maryville College's men's and women's soccer teams, said that in the last six decades, adidas has become the brand of choice for millions of soccer players all over the globe.

"We are excited to enter a partnership with a company that has been dedicated to the soccer world," he said. "We are also excited about the soccer-specific uniforms and gear we will be putting our student-athletes in."

Women's Head Basketball Coach Darrin Travillian said the partnership should help in recruiting new players.

"Having one brand, one color swatch and a true connection to adidas will help us market our program in an exciting, contemporary way," he said.
